The physics museum at The University of Queensland has a long history, which is only partially told by the items in this small museum.

Pitch drop experiment

The UQ physics department is famous for its pitch drop experiment, which has been running since 1927 and has been described as the longest-running laboratory experiment in the world. It demonstrates that pitch is a liquid that flows at room temperature—just very very slowly. Only 9 drops have fallen in its first 87 years.

Professor John Mainstone was the second custodian of the experiment. I took some physics subjects that he taught.
